Get Your Body Ready For Spring Activity

With the lovely springtime weather, you are more likely to head outside and begin participating in fun activities. Whether that involves playing softball or tending to your garden, a sudden increase in strenuous activity is bound to put stress on a body that has been mostly sedentary for several months. Chances are you may even wake-up dormant musculoskeletal issues that have plagued you in the past.

What can you do?

Make sure you are doing all you can to get your body ready for this Springtime Fun!

One key is prior to any activity…. Be sure you warm up your muscles and joints by stretching. If you’re going to be doing a lot of bending, you should stretch your back muscles, as well as the muscles in your legs. We recommend that you continue to stretch during and after your activity.

It’s frequently recommended to stretch in the opposite direction of your activity. For example, if you’re doing a lot of bending, stretch backwards.

It is also important to drink water before, during, and after your activity to help wash away the toxins. You should also consider taking frequent breaks, every hour or so to take a drink! The rest will also be great for your muscles and joints.

What should you do if you overextend yourself?

Gently massage any tight or sore muscles. It is also a good idea to use ice on any body part that feels irritated. Ice for 10 – 12 minutes, then rest. For any pain lasting more than 2-3 days, call us. We not only want to help you get some relief, but also help to minimize scar tissue formation and prevent a long-term chronic condition.

Finally, we strongly encourage you to keep your spine healthy throughout the year with regular chiropractic care. This optimizes the function of your spine and nerve-system.

As always, if you have any questions on how to avoid injury, please give us a call. We are always ready to help you achieve better health, naturally!
