The Four Rules Of Lifting

Did you know that Dr. Holst is a certified Backsafe consultant? That means that he has undergone special training to help people who work in an industrial environment avoid injury. His training isn’t just for those who work in an industrial setting, it can be applied to anyone as they go about their day-to-day life! We thought we would take a minute to lay out the Four Rules Of Lifting to help us all!

Rule #1 – Keep The Load Close

For every foot out from your body you lift a box or other heavy object, it increases the impact to your back 100 times!

Rule #2 – Keep Your Head Up

It is natural to look down at the object you are about to lift, but once you have it centered, lift your head up. Looking down changes the dynamic of your spine and can lead to injury.

Rule #3 – Keep Your Nose Between Your Toes

The object you are lifting should be right in front of you and not to the side! You also want to keep your nose facing front so that your spine stays in line.

Rule #4 – Activate Your Abs

When you lift, you want to be sure that you don’t arch your back and you activate your core.

There you have it, the Four Rules For Lifting! As always, if you have any questions on how to avoid injury, please give us a call. We are always ready to help you achieve better health, naturally!
